Course Description

As part of the early sessions in a coaching program, assessments allow the coach to determine the current state of a client’s behaviors in various lifestyle areas.   With so many lifestyle-related assessments available, it can be challenging to select appropriate measures for individual lifestyle behaviors, when accounting for validity, length and ease of use.  This course will review common validated assessments in evaluation of lifestyle behaviors in lifestyle medicine coaching, as well as common lab values that are used in ongoing monitoring of the effect of lifestyle change on chronic disease markers.

Course Objectives

After completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

  • Connect readiness for change in a particular lifestyle area with selection of a lifestyle-specific assessment tool.

  • Compare and contrast features of validated lifestyle assessments used in lifestyle medicine.

  • List at least one assessment in each of the 6 lifestyle medicine pillars.

  • Describe the available comprehensive lifestyle medicine assessments & their drawbacks.

  • Recognize abnormal results in common laboratory markers used in disease monitoring, such as hemoglobin A1C, BMI, & lipid profile results.
